Cells Animal, Plant, & Bacteria Cells

Term Definition
Plasma Membrane/Cell Membrane Helps control what can go in and what can go out. It is the animal cell's outer lining. Semi-permeable allows thing that go in and out, it protects the cells from bad stuff from coming in. These are found in animal, plant, and bacteria cells.
Ribosomes Most are located on the endoplasmic reticulum and the nutrients they produce either stay in or leave the cell. Some may float around the cytoplasm and the nutrients they produce stay inside the celll. These are found in animal, plant, and bacteria cells.
Mitochondria Fuels most of the action inside the cell. These produce ATP (energy-rich molecule). Uses glucose in cellular respiration. They are considered to be the power plant of the cell. These are found in animal and plant cells.
Nucleus Holds the DNA (construction plans). It controls most of the activities in the cell. It controls chromosomes that control what goes on in the cell. This is considered to be the brain of the cell. These are found in animal and plant cells.
Golgi Apparatus These package/group molecules and ships them to different places, like different organelles or they just leave the cell. Transports things out of the cell. These are found in animal and plant cells.
Cytoplasm This is the liquid that fills the cell up, holds the organelles, and keep the cell from deflating. These are found in animal, plant, and bacteria cells.
Lysosomes & Peroxisomes These parts recycle and break down waste that are in the cell. Peroxisomes is found in animal and plant cells. Lysosomes break down waste and detoxifies poisons.
Endoplasmic Reticulum These ship things around the cell and to the Golgi Apparatus to ship to other places. Rough ER, when there are ribosomes attached to it. Soft ER, when there are no ribosomes attached to it. These are found in animal and plant cells.
Chloroplasts Goes through a process called photosynthesis and produces ATP, like mitochondria. These are found in plant cells.
Vacuole Vacuole stores liquid, nutrients, and waste so the cell won't be contaminated in animal cells. Plant cell's vacuole hold water. There is one big vacuole in plant cells and some small vacuole in animal cells. These are found in plant and animal cells.
Flagellum This helps the cell move around. There can be multiple on one cell. These are found on bacteria cells.
Pili & Fimbriae When bacteria is attached to a surface, you can thank these. These are found on bacteria cells.
Capsule Protects cells from any harm. These are found in bacteria cells.
The Cell Wall This maintains the shape of the cell. These are found in bacteria and plant cells.
Nucleoid Unlike the nucleus of plant and animal cells, this doesn't hold any DNA, it is just clumped around it. This is found in bacteria cells.
Nucleolus Makes Ribosomes.
Plant vs. Animal Cells Plant cells have one big vacuole, chloroplasts, and only a few lysosomes. Animal cells have some small and similar vacuoles, no chloroplasts, no cell wall, and a lot of lysosomes.
